Religious Leaders from different religions residing in Pakistan (Muslim, Christian, Sikh and Hindu) got together at Minar-e-Pakistan to celebrate the 70th Independence Day of Pakistan.

This ceremony was organized with a combined effort of Fr. Francis Nadeem, Fr. Inyat Bernard, Rev. Shahid Merhaj, Mr. Sohail Ahmad Raza of Minhaj ul Quarn Institute, Sardar Bishan Singh, Sardar Ranjeet Singh, Sardar Utar Singh and Pandit Bhaggat Lal from Hindu Community.

All the leaders of the different religions expressed their solidarity while holding the Pakistani Flag high. In their notions, every one of the pioneers communicated their desire for a prosperous, serene and a libertarian Pakistan. They implored by their convictions for peace and amicability in Pakistan.

Several people were present for this ceremony to mark the satisfaction and delight of the Independence Day. A cake was likewise cut toward the end of the Program.

In August 1947 India was partitioned into two separate states, the border between Hindu-majority India and Muslim-majority. The Punjab was split down the middle.

The largely Muslim state was comprised of East and West Pakistan, separated by more than 1,500 km of Indian territory.

The decision of the man drawing the line was not just an administrative formality, it was a matter of life and death. It was a rushed partition which  led to untold catastrophe.  One million died and 15 million were displaced as Muslims fled to Pakistan, and Hindus and Sikhs headed in the opposite direction.  The repercussions of the rushed partition we still witness to date.

Independence of Pakistan is observed annually on 14 August, following its first observance on that day in 1947, the day before the partition of India officially took effect.  It commemorates the occasion of Pakistan's creation and was declared a sovereign nation following the partition of India on 15 August 1947.
