Ready for a Storm?

Thursday, July 12, 2018 • John Morris
Are you prepared when He inevitably comes?

Matthew 10:7, 9-10

Jesus said, "the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!" Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give. Do not take gold or silver or copper for your belts; no sack for the journey, or a second tunic, or sandals, or walking stick.

Here in Florida we deal with hurricanes.  I suppose it is part of the sacrifice for living in a tropical paradise.  But hurricanes are no joke and as residents, we should be ready and when they come.  When they do, we make preparations quickly and should get out of Dodge without delay.  In our haste we forget to do things, or forget to pack medicines, dog food, extra clothes.  That's why the meteorologists and civil authorities advise us to always be ready with storm kits packed and a plan in place.

Our Christians life is like that.  We are taught that the kingdom of God is at hand, that Jesus will come again and we'd better be ready.  Do we heed the warnings?  Do we look for signs, or do we just sit back and wait, saying to ourselves, "I'll get ready when it happens," or, "I think I'll 'ride it out'?"  Jesus tells us in Matthew's Gospel today to not wait, but the business now is at hand and we have no time to delay.  There's no time to plan…you've had your whole life…so get moving!  In the bit of time that you have left, what will you do?  Live your life to the fullest for Jesus.  Spend time in prayer and worship the God of the Universe.  Ask for forgiveness of your sins.  Tell others about Jesus; bring them to church and be a living witness of what it means to be a Christian (always do this!) Help your neighbor in the big things and the little ones.  Treat others as you would like to be treated.  Waiting until the last minute to prep for the storm will be dangerous.  So will waiting for the second coming and you're not ready.  Jesus tells us to not pack money, don't get the secondary clothes, or a stick….just go!!!  Are you ready when He comes again?  I'll bet the second coming is going be bigger than any hurricane.
